This looks pretty good.
ABCDEFGeek Serie - Part 1 (A to I)
Part I - Part II - Part III (to follow)
That feel when your geekiness shows up on a geek post to say that they got the Hannibal one wrong. Because Hannibal himself never cut off skin and used it as a costume, it was the OTHER serial killer in silence of the lambs.
He sliced off the face of a police officer in one of the other films so that he would be put in an ambulance from which he then escaped. I can’t remember if it was Red Dragon or Hannibal though and it’s annoying me

Religious people can’t engineer or solve complex problems?
People think this is a smart thing to say?
He’s not saying “religious people”, not at all. Nye isn’t the anti-religious Richard Dawkins type. He’s specifically talking about young earth creationism, the anti-science idea that the planet and universe are 6000 years old and the line is regarding his recent debate with Ken Ham, head of the incredibly racist Creation Museum.
Here’s the thing, the religious people who built the above structures weren’t anti-science, anti-knowledge, anti-learing, these cultures valued these things. When you’re training your child that evolution is an evil lie, that the planet is 6000 years old, that all the natural formations on earth were formed by some physically impossible massive flood, that the craters on the moon were formed by geysers errupting from earth and hitting it during said flood, that dinosaurs were on the ark, that all of humanity came from one dudes family after that flood around 4k years ago, that the son of Noah who was cursed that his descendents would be servants were the ones who went to Africa (a view which has been used to justify slavery extensively, EVEN TO THIS DAY), that the Loch Ness Monster is actually a dinosaur and proof of God’s creation, that ‘secularism’ has corrputed science and turned it against god, etc. etc. etc. then you are seriously disadvantaging that child when it comes to learning anything in the sciences.
Nye isn’t condemning religion, he’s condemning right wing extremist evangelical young earth creationism, and in a wold where a lack in scientific literacy is currently harming our ecosystem and reducing our species odds of survival, and as someone who was raised in this fucked up mindset (the reason I know so much about what they teach is because I was taught it as a child), I think his point holds absolutely true when taken in context.
Thanks for the context
I’m a bit pissed that the artist is implying that drawing fan art that someone wants to spend money on is “easy”.
UM TELL THAT TO MY WIFE WHO JUST SPENT 50 HOURS ON HER LAST PIECE.
Wow. Just Wow.
Fuck you to the comic artist for thinking that fanartists find the con scene “easy” just because they draw fanart.
Newsflash. THE CON SCENE IS NOT “EASY”. In order to be successful you need to put an IMMENSE amount of time and energy into every piece that you do, EVEN IF it’s fanart. This is getting dangerously close to that “fanart isn’t real art” argument which makes my blood boil.
This is my latest piece of fanart. You wanna know how long it took me? Well. my fiancée already spoiled it for you, but 50 hours. Fifty fucking hours. That’s more than two weeks of full time work for a singular piece of “easy” fanart. And fanartists face an entire slew of their own challenges that the original artists don’t. We’re not competing with each other, we’re competing with the environment. We have to keep abreast of what’s popular and what sells. A stale portfolio? That’s a convention death sentence, my friend.
That’s on top of the fact that working Artist Alley itself is far from easy. Traveling, setting up, being behind tables all day, working late into the night on commissions or re-printing. I know we all go through this, but implying that this is an easy job for anyone is downright insulting.
Oh, and there’s the above sexist crap too, which has already been outlines so there’s not much reason for me to reiterate.
So yeah, basically fuck you, dmh3000.
I haven’t read comic writer’s response, so it’s possible the above is a misinterpretation of what they said, but if it really does boil down to “boobs sell,” then I’m very confused:
The comic above is illustrating that they DON’T sell because the person attempting to sell the boob humor comic is unsuccessful while the artist who sold a superhero comic that the woman liked IS successful.
Sooo I’m kind of seeing a mixed message here.
Originally I was just going to leave this all alone, because I didn’t feel I could say anything else that would fix anyone’s views on the comic, but it’s starting to get out of control, so let me see if I can explain myself better.
First off, I was not trying to say fan artists don’t put effort into their work, you’re just putting words into my mouth there. I’ve done fan art before and I know it’s just as hard as original characters. But it does grab more attention. At my last con, my sister and I shared a table and she had some posters of Iron Man for sale. She sold half her stock and I was able to use the posters as an ice breaker between me and other con goers by pointing out the poster and then pointing out my original work. I managed to break even that year thanks to that approach, whereas with other years where I only had original work, I was lucky if I made enough to pay for the table.
Second, the cover has nothing to do with the comic’s intended message. In the original script I said there was a comic being held up without specifying what was on it, so Paul just drew a pair of breasts and I put the page up because at the time I saw nothing wrong with it, and when I put it on tumblr, the unfortunate implications never crossed my mind until they were pointed out to me. I do apologise for not being more sensitive and to all who were offended by it, I am sorry.
This was just supposed to be a comic about how hard it can be for the unknowns to find their audience. Anything else you see is your own interpretation of the page. But again, i am sorry for any offence I caused.
Honest Trailers - After Earth
I keep saying that M. Night Shyamalan needs to stick to directing, but I think he should just quit anything involving film and move onto something else.
Perhaps writing novels…
Not that he would be any more successful at that selling books…

This video discusses how companies can abuse the automated copyright detection system built within YouTube to shutdown videos that are either making money from showing a piece of their copyrighted material, or merely giving an honest review on a poorly designed game.
I always thought a Steam OS/Console should have been called the “Steam Engine.”
Oh well. They missed their shot to have an epic name.
